Bluffdale Arts Center — Proposed Facility Plan

Bluffdale Arts Center is grateful for the opportunity to serve our community and for the city's continued support in making that possible. As we look at how to get the most out of our current facility, we've been working through a series of proposed layout changes — improvements that would help us better serve residents, grow our programming, and use the space more intentionally.

What follows is a floor-level look at where we are today and what we're proposing for each area of the building — downstairs, upstairs, and the Black Box Theater. These are proposals, not final plans, and we welcome feedback and dialogue as we move forward together.

Section 01

Downstairs — Main Floor

Convert the main open area into a dedicated Rehearsal, Educational, and Community Space — a flexible room that can serve classes, rehearsals, community meetings, and double as a green room during Black Box performances
Add a new double door to allow backstage access from the green room — city engineering review and support will be needed for this opening
Add a structural beam to support the open floor plan — we will need the city's engineering review and design support for this
Potentially fill in the west entrances to direct foot traffic toward the south side of the building
Create a dedicated Box Office / Concessions area

Upstairs

Repurpose the existing office layout into a large Costume Storage area — costume rentals are already our biggest steady revenue stream, and a dedicated space means renters are received in the lobby rather than wandering through storage
Dedicated Props/Storage and Visual Arts Storage zones
Dedicated Tech Storage for lighting, sound, and production equipment
Classroom, Studio & Staging Area for education programs and pre-production work
Rentals Lobby — a dedicated front-of-house space for costume and prop rentals, keeping the transaction area separate from the storage itself
Changing Rooms for performers and students
Flex Space / Design area for set design, painting, and production prep

Black Box Theater

Fill in 3 of the 4 existing garage doors for sound dampening — a critical step toward making the space viable for live performance
Establish a defined Stage with Backstage / Wings space
Install retractable seating — flexible enough to configure the room for different performance styles and audience sizes
Add a Tech Booth for lighting and sound operation
Remove existing stairs and add a door connecting to the green room next door

A Note on First Steps

In order to begin moving items out of the basement and free up space for the proposed upstairs layout, we will need to place two exterior storage containers on the property. These would be used for costumes, props, and other items that don't require climate control, and are a necessary first step before any upstairs reconfiguration can begin.

A Program Worth Investing In

We are eager to begin this work and look forward to the Advisory Board's support in making it happen.
